Las Positas Honors Student, Maegha Ramanathan Was Recognized by TIME for Advancing Gender Equality in Sports
The Las Positas College Honors Program is proud to celebrate Honors student Maegha Ramanathan, who was recently featured in TIME Magazine for her extraordinary leadership and global impact through her nonprofit organization, Girls4Sports (G4S).

Maegha’s inspiring story was highlighted in TIME’s feature, “This Teen Activist Wants to Make Sure No Girl Is Denied the Right to Play Sports,” recognizing her commitment to providing opportunities for girls in athletics nationwide and around the world.
Maegha founded Girls4Sports in 2021 after witnessing gender inequality on her own competitive swim team. Determined to create lasting change, she launched the nonprofit with the mission of ensuring that every girl has a chance to participate in sports, regardless of where she lives.
Since then, Girls4Sports has grown into one of the world’s largest youth-led organizations
dedicated to promoting gender equality in athletics. Under Maegha’s leadership, the
organization has built a network of more than 1,500 volunteers across 20 U.S. states
and 23 countries, helping nearly 40,000 girls gain access to athletic programs while
donating more than 10,000 pieces of sports equipment to youth organizations, hospitals,
and children’s homes worldwide.
“I wanted to ensure that no girl is ever denied the right to play sports,” Maegha shared in her interview with TIME.
Beyond increasing access to athletics, Girls4Sports encourages young women to become leaders through peer-led sports camps, workshops, conferences, mentorship opportunities, and advocacy initiatives. The organization has also expanded internationally, supporting girls’ sports programs in countries including India, Pakistan, Kenya, South Africa, and Lesotho.
Maegha received the Billie Jean King Youth Leadership Award at the ESPY Awards and recently spoke at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, where she continued advocating for gender equality and youth leadership on a global stage.
Reflecting on her accomplishments, Maegha emphasized the importance of collective action:
“It’s all thanks to the power of youth – what youth can do when they come together.”
The Las Positas College Honors Program congratulates Maegha on this remarkable achievement. Her passion for service, leadership, and advocacy exemplifies the values of the Honors community and serves as an inspiration to students who strive to make a positive impact both locally and globally.
