How to Apply

You need to apply to become an official Honors Program member before you can take any Honors Courses. Only approved members of the Program can enroll in Honors Courses.

STEP 1: Check Honors Eligibility Requirements

Continuing Community College students must meet the following criteria:

  • Have Cumulative College GPA of 3.5 or higher, with a minimum 12 college units, and provide a copy of the transcript (doesn't have to be official), OR
  • Provide a name of a Las Positas College Instructor recommending you for the program

First-time students entering from High School must meet the following criteria:

  • Have 3.75 or higher weighted cumulative High School GPA, and provide a copy of the high-school transcript (doesn't have to be official), OR
  • Provide a recommendation letter of a high school counselor

If you do not meet these criteria, but feel you would be a good candidate for the program, please contact the honors director.

STEP 2: Submit a NEW member application

If you fit the requirements above you can submit your application to the Program. You can apply at any time, there is no due date, but applying in your first year, before a semester, or early in a semester will give you the maximum chances of getting into and taking more Honors Courses.

STEP 3: Enroll in LPC Honors Program Canvas

Once you are approved for the Program, you will receive a link to enroll in the LPC Honors Program Canvas. You must be on LPC Honors Canvas to participate in the program and to take Honors courses. The Canvas provides all necessary forms and resources, as well as access to Honors Courses. All communication about important updates and transfer agreements certifications will take place through that Canvas announcements, so make sure to adjust your Canvas settings to get notifications, so you don't miss any important forms and/or due dates!

Make Sure to Keep Up with the Continuation Requirements

To be a member in good standing:

  • Maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Complete at least one Honors course per year with a grade of B or higher

To graduate from LPC as an Honors Scholar

  • Maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Complete a minimum of 5 Honors Courses with a grade of B or higher

Upon completion of Honors Scholar requirements, honors students will receive special recognition at graduation, a medal and a stamp on their transcript. Any student that completed at least 1 Honors Course will receive a Honors Program pin for the graduation.
