Application, Admission, and Registration

How do I take classes at Las Positas College (LPC)?

Any new student must complete the CCCApply application for Las Positas College and EITHER the CCAP Dual Enrollment form (if your district has an agreement) or the Concurrent Enrollment form for free tuition and fees.

After completing the CCC Application, you will receive a W# (student id number) and then prompts you to create a Zonemail email account within 2 business days. There are instructions for all of these steps on our main page. If you do not receive your W#, please contact Admissions or Records at lpc-concurrent@laspositascollege.edu or send an email to us at lpc-dualenrollment@laspositascollege.edu. It's a good idea to print/save a copy of your application for your records. You may need some of the information at a later date and time.

To complete the Concurrent Enrollment application, you must fill out the e-form with all information including the classes you’d like to take (and perhaps a couple of extra classes in case the ones you want are full). After submitting the e-form you will receive a verification code by email. The form will be routed to your parent/guardian, and then school designee for approval and signature. Are there any academic requirements or prerequisites for LPC classes?

Classes at Las Positas College may have special requirements or prerequisites students must complete in order to register for them. To find out the requirements for a particular class , view the course information in the College Catalog.

CCAP Dual Enrollment students may only take the classes offered through their school district's agreement.

All classes for Concurrent Enrollment are open to all high school students, provided that they are not Basic Skills classes (ENG 100 level, ESL courses, MATH 100 level) and/or the student meets the prerequisites required for the class. (Please see Ed. Code 48800 if you have questions).

Who do I talk to if I have problems registering, discover an issue in class, or need help and I don’t know where to start?

Concurrent Enrollment students have support from their high school and LPC. If you have concerns about how college courses might translate to credits at your high school, please check in with your high school counselor. This varies from district to district and is a locally based decision.

When in a LPC class, if you notice any issues, please start by inquiring with your instructor.

When can I sign up for classes?

You can sign up for classes when the appropriate application and registration windows are open. View the Academic Calendar to find these important dates.

When completing the Concurrent Enrollment Application form, who do I list as Designee?

When starting the Concurrent Enrollment Application form, each student must provide the name and email address for your school designee or counselor. Please list the name and contact information for the designee or counselor from the school where you were enrolled the term prior to completing summer classes at LPC.

For example, if you attended 8th grade at Miller Middle School in May and will be starting Geometry at Las Positas College in June, please provide the contact information for a designee/counselor from Miller Middle School. Though you will be starting High school in the fall, we need verification from the school where you’ve completed Algebra 1 that you have passed the course.

If you don’t know the contact information for your designee/counselor, please contact your current school. IF YOU DO NOT INDICATE THE CORRECT PERSON, YOUR APPLICATION WILL NOT BE PROCESSED and you may not be notified due to the high volume or applications in Admissions & Records.

I’m the parent or guardian of a high school student in LPC classes. Can I access their information?

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 is a federal law that establishes the rights of students with regard to education records, and ensures students of the right to privacy and confidentiality with respect to those records. The Admissions & Records Office will not discuss a student's academic records with any person other than the student, regardless of age, relationship, marital status, etc. unless written authorization using the FERPA Release Form has been submitted by the student to Admissions & Records. This policy is to protect the student's right to privacy under FERPA laws and regulations. By filling out this form, the student gives permission for the designated individual(s) to view and access the type of information specified on the form.

Dual/Concurrent Enrollment

What is Concurrent Enrollment? What is the difference between Dual and Concurrent Enrollment?

The terms “Concurrent Enrollment” and “Dual Enrollment” are often used interchangeably. Both accurately describe K-12 students who enroll part-time in college.

CCAP Dual Enrollment Agreements provide K12 students with the opportunity to earn credit toward high school graduation and university transferable credits. Each district has their own policies for earning credit towards graduation for Concurrent Enrollment students.

How much does it cost to take classes at Las Positas College while a high school student?

Enrollment fees AND student fees are waived for students taking CCAP Dual or Concurrent Enrollment classes. Most instructors try to find zero cost textbooks or online resources for students. There may be material or class fees for certain subject areas.

How old do I have to be to take classes at Las Positas College?

High school students in 9th (as of fall 2024) to 12 grades can enroll in classes.

Please check with your High School Counselor about how credit towards high school graduation will be considered and appear on your transcript.

How many LPC classes can I take?

Concurrent Enrollment students can enroll part-time in classes at Las Positas College which means you can take up to 11 units in Spring and Fall, and up to 6 units in Summer.

CCAP Dual Enrollment students can take up to 15 units per semseter as long as the classes are part of the curated agreement with their school district.

Are Dual/Concurrent Enrollment classes easier than other college classes?

No. Since Dual/Concurrent Enrollment classes are college classes; they will be taught at the same rigor as college classes.

Who teaches Dual/Concurrent Enrollment classes?

Dual/Concurrent Enrollment classes offered at Las Positas College are taught by Las Positas College instructors. Our instructors are highly skilled, have master’s degree level training, and have industry experience.

Will classes count for credit towards high school graduation?

Please consult with your high school counselor to find out how Concurrent Enrollment classes will count toward high school graduation and how those credits will appear on your transcript. While noncredit courses may fulfill high school credits, students will not earn college credits.

Do I have to pay for books or other materials?

Students taking Concurrent Enrollment classes through special programs (e.g., Summer Geometry) will not incur any costs for books. However, other materials like calculators may be the responsibility of the student. Please check with your high school counselor for more information obtaining copies of required texts.

Is this course approved by the UC/CSU?

In many cases, if a course has been approved by your high school to count towards high school graduation and A-G requirements, and it has been notated on your high school transcript, the course can fulfill university requirements. However, it is best to confirm acceptable course requirements with the university of your choice.

When will the course begin? How many hours a day and days a week will it be offered?

This course will be offered during the Summer Sessions. The dates may change from year to year. There are no plans for an alternative schedule at this time. This course is offered from Monday to Thursday in 3-4 hour blocks. Dates, times, and locations can be found in CLASS-Web once the summer schedule is released in April.

Where are the classes offered?

Concurrent Enrollment courses may be offered on the LPC campus, at a local high school, or a designated location in the community. To find the location for the class in which you have interest, visit CLASS-Web to search for the class and view the class location.

Will the course be offered online?

There are no plans to offer this course online at this time.

What if I can’t attend all class sessions?

The summer session is compact as 16 weeks worth of material will be taught in only 8 weeks, therefore, missing classes may lead to falling behind significantly.

Instructors define the attendance policies for their courses. So, students must consult with their instructors about course attendance and make arrangements, if any, related to absences.

I am a student attending high school outside of the Tri-Valley Area. Can I take Geometry at Las Positas College in the summer?

This course has been designed for high school students. Though it is a college course, it is noncredit and therefore does not earn any college credit. Please consult with your high school counselor to find out whether this course will count toward high school graduation and how it will appear on your transcript.
