Las Positas Journal of Honors

Mission

The Las Positas Journal of Honors is dedicated to amplifying the diverse intellectual curiosity and scholarly aptitude of our students. The journal serves as a platform for original research across all disciplines, allowing students to have their research published and read by others using a blind submission and peer review process. LPJH values passion for learning and working toward novel discoveries, regardless of whether a student attends a four-year university or not. By publishing this journal, we intend to encourage other Honors programs at community colleges across the nation to form platforms publicizing the academic works of their students.

Submission Instructions

Please review the information below before clicking into the submission form. We ask that you only open the form once you are ready to complete it.

 

Please have the following ready:

• Your manuscript title

• The names of any coauthors, if applicable

• Your abstract (maximum 250 words)

• 3–6 keywords

• Information about whether this paper has been submitted elsewhere, and if so, where

 

You may only select one category to submit your paper to:

• Social Sciences

• STEM

• Arts & Humanities

Depending on the category you choose, you will be asked for additional section-specific information.

 

For STEM Submissions:

Be prepared to answer:

• Discipline
  Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Environmental Science, Neuroscience, or Other

• Study Type
  Experimental, Computational, Theoretical, Review, Design/Prototype, or Other

• Ethics Compliance
  If human or animal subjects were involved you must explain how you complied to safety/ethics (list IRB, IACUC, biosafety, lab safety)

 

For Social Science Submissions:

Be prepared to answer:

• Methodology
  Qualitative, Quantitative, Mixed Methods, Theoretical, Review, or Other

• Ethics Compliance
  If human subjects were involved you must disclose your IRB/ethics approval status if applicable

• Key Research Question

 

For Arts Submissions:

Be prepared to answer:

• Submission Type
  Literary Analysis, Historical Analysis, Philosophy, Cultural Critique, Visual Arts Essay, Creative Scholarship, or Other

• Any Primary Texts / Sources / Works Engaged

• Rights/Permissions
  If your submission includes images of media requiring permissions, you must state that you have aquired them

 

Supplemenal Material

If you are uploading an art piece:

• In the text box provided, include a description of the piece

• Be sure to mention:

  • the medium, the type of canvas or display surface and the size of the work

If you are uploading a coded project or program:

• If your code is hosted online, such as in Google Colab, paste a shareable link in the text box

• If your project is stored elsewhere, paste a shareable link to a Google Drive folder containing your code and all supporting material

If you are uploading another type of supplemental material:

• Paste a shareable link to it in the text box provided

If you are submitting more than one supplemental item:

• Paste a shareable link to one Google Drive folder containing all supplemental materials

All pasted links must be shareable and accessible to anyone with the link. Failure to provide accessible links may result in automatic rejection of your paper from publication consideration.

 

AI Policy

Authors must disclose any AI tools used and explain their specific purpose in the manuscript submission form.

Prohibited Uses

The following uses of AI are not allowed:

• Generating any part of the manuscript writing

• Fabricating or altering data or analyses

• Inventing citations

Permitted Uses

The following uses of AI are allowed:

• Grammar and spelling correction

• Clarity improvements that do not change intellectual content

• Formatting references and citations
