Women in Automotive
Today's automotive industry provides many opportunities for women, from technicians to business owners. While there may still be some society-based perceptions regarding women as technicians, many business owners would only speak to the positive attributes women bring to the position. Recently, the Girl Scouts have even begun to support "Non-Traditional" career fields for women by instituting a "Car Care Badge."
Today, the industry is not looking for men or women; they are looking for competent
technicians and other service support personnel.
"Taking auto for me is a great experience. It gives me a chance to work on cars and not have to rely on a guy to fix my car." -Grenisha Howard, Livermore (left of picture)
"Three Years ago I got ripped off on a rotor, so I decided to leave Chicago and join the automotive program at Las Positas" - Betty Perez, Chicago, IL (center of picture)
"I am taking automotive because I enjoy working on cars. I plan to open my own community based shop to help single parents afford auto maintenance." - Diana Lopez, Livermore (right of Picture)
