Career Opportunities

The field of horticulture is both dynamic and exciting. Horticulturists have opportunities to work in many interesting areas: residential and commercial landscape installation and maintenance; urban tree service; forestry; park, grounds, and golf course maintenance; retail and wholesale nursery operations and management; floristry; plant pest control and horticulture consulting; and residential landscape design. Horticulturists can be self-employed and can work in a variety of positions: county cooperative extension agents, teachers and educators, agricultural inspectors, sales representatives, golf course superintendents, and more. For advancement, students can earn four-year degrees. Career advancement can include positions in management and supervision.
