Year-Round Pell Grants
Summer Pell Grant Important Information
The U.S. Education Department has recently implemented Year-Round Pell Grants, allowing students to receive up to 150% of a regular grant award over the course of the academic year (fall, spring, summer) so that they can continue taking classes in the summer and finish their degrees faster than they would otherwise.
What does this mean for you?
Previously, eligible students only received Pell Grant for the summer semester if
they had not exhausted their full-time Pell Grant award during the previous fall and
spring semesters (enrolled in 12+ units each term). With the implementation of Year-Round
Pell, students who attend full-time for fall and spring semesters may still be eligible
to receive Pell Grant award as long as they meet all requirements.
To be considered for a summer Pell Grant Award:
- You must enroll in and maintain enrollment in at least one class for the summer semester.
- Any Pell Grant disbursed will be included in your Pell Lifetime Eligibility Used (LEU). The limit for Pell is 6 years or 600%.
- Summer Pell Grant cannot be awarded for waitlisted classes.
- You should only be enrolling in classes that are required for your academic program.
- If you withdraw from or do not complete all of your summer classes, you may have to repay funds received based on the date you dropped or withdrew from classes. You will be notified by mail if you are required to repay funds.
- Summer classes count towards Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). If you are on warning status and you do not meet the minimum standards for summer, or you reach the unit limit after summer, you will be disqualified after summer. Remember, you must earn at least 67% of units attempted with a 2.0 minimum term GPA in summer, the same as regular semesters. Not doing so may jeapardize your financial aid eligibility.
