Dr. Harold Strunk
Service, Sacrifice, Strength:
Honoring Our Heroes

About Guest Speaker Dr. Harold Strunk
Harold K. Strunk, Dr.PH., has travelled much of the world and lived in Saudi Arabia
during the 1980s while employed by Arabian Bechtel and then by the Saudi Military.
He served five years in the US Army and 17 in the US Navy much of which was in US
CENTCOM area of responsibility in 19 countries of the Middle East, plus North and
East Africa. He calls that the 'Desert Navy' while studying at the US Naval Medical
Research Unit in both Cairo, Egypt and
Manila, Philippines. In 1984, Dr. Strunk authored the Manual of Infectious and Communicable diseases of the Middle East, as US CENTCOM was newly assigned to the Middle East and knew very little about the regional disease threats. On two Brightstar exercises, he served as the liaison officer to the Egyptian Army. After returning from Desert Storm, he was assigned as a project officer for Chemical and Biological Weapons Defense working with the Army at Dugway Proving Ground, UT then retiring as an 0-6 Captain in 1994.
He attended Georgia Institute of Technology studying civil engineering until he was drafted, then completed a bachelor's degree in experimental psychology at California State at Fullerton. Later, he completed a masters in psychiatric social welfare, a masters in international public health, and a doctorate in public health in epidemiology and hospital administration all from University of California Los Angeles. He is a member of the Association for Intelligence Officers, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Sons of the American Revolution.
He is looking forward to speaking with you; you are the hope for tomorrow.
Talking Points from the Guest Speaker:
- The attack of the World Trade Center on 9/11 didn't just happen on that day. Events were happening for several years before that would lead to that perfect storm when nineteen young men attacked America. Some say that there was an intelligence failure. Well, yes and no. I'll tell you why.
- Many of you were deployed to countries that most people cannot find on a map. I'll tell you why.
- From my perspective, one, war is the failure of diplomacy, and two, something Pope Francis said; "Many powerful people do not want peace, because they live off war." Let's have a dialogue over this.
- I have lived for ninety years, and I want to tell you that we are living in very dangerous times.
