Course Reviews

At LPC, there are two types of DE course reviews:

DE Committee Course Review

If you are looking for a way to meet the DE training requirements in Article 19H of the faculty contract, you can choose to complete a course review with a member of LPC's DE Committee.

If you choose this option, a committee member will set up time to meet with you and review your online course using an approved checklist. This checklist aligns with negotiated minimum DE standards (Article 19E) and helps ensure your course meets accreditation and legal requirements.

If the course does not pass an initial review, the instructor of the course will be asked to make revisions (with the reviewer's help) until it ultimately passes. The instructor's dean will be notified of the outcome.

Please note: this is separate from the evaluation process outlined in Article 19F, which requires all faculty to complete an official evaluation during the semester in which they teach their first Distance Education.

CVC-OEI Course Review

After meeting the initial DE training requirement and teaching online for at least one semester, instructors have the option of participating in our Peer Online Course Review program, better known as POCR.

During the POCR process, instructors work with our POCR Lead (a trained faculty mentor), Instructional Technology Coordinator, and Instructional Technology Specialist to align their online course to the best practices identified in the CVC-OEI Course Design Rubric.

Once aligned, the instructor's course is badged as "Quality Reviewed" in the CVC Exchange, which is a tool that allows students to find online courses at participating California Community Colleges. "Quality Reviewed" courses float to the top of the results page when a student searches for courses. In addition, aligned courses have certain priorities over non-aligned courses in the LPC class scheduling process.
