Course Reviews
At LPC, there are two types of course reviews: one that is mandatory and one that is optional.
DE Committee Course Review
Faculty teaching Distance Education classes for the first time must submit their classes for approval to the Distance Education Committee, as per the Faculty Association contract. This is done in order to ensure that DE classes meet baseline standards not only for quality, but also to ensure they are meeting accreditation and legal requirements.
A committee member will be assigned a course and will review it against an approved checklist to determine if the course is ready for approval or not. If the course does not pass initial review, the instructor of the course will be asked to make revisions (with the reviewer's help) until it ultimately passes. The instructor's dean will be notified of the outcome.
CVC-OEI Course Review
Instructors have the option of getting their courses reviewed by a trained team of LPC faculty to ensure alignment to the CVC-OEI Course Design Rubric. This process is called Peer Online Course Review, better known as POCR. During the POCR process, instructors get a professional reviewer, then work with the college's Instructional Technology Coordinator and Instructional Technology Specialist to remediate any issues (including web accessibility) until the course meets the standards of the rubric.
Once aligned, your course will be badged as Quality Reviewed in the CVC Course Finder, which is a tool that allows students to find online courses at other California Community Colleges. Quality Reviewed courses are placed at the top of the results page when a student searches for courses. In addition, aligned courses will have certain priorities over non-aligned courses in the LPC class scheduling process.
