Canvas Login Instructions
Ready to get started on Canvas? Learn how to log in for the first time, customize your password, and reset your password when you need to. Plus, check out our quick tips for new users!
The first time you log in to Canvas, you'll use a default password:
- Username: W number
- Password: first two letters of your first name, first two letters of your last name (all lowercase), last four digits of your W number
Example: Maria Valdez with a W number of W98765432 would enter password mava5432.
Canvas credentials are created after you register for classes in MyPortal and a few weeks before the first semester begins.
If you are still having trouble accessing Canvas when your class starts, get help online or on campus in the Computer Center.
Once you log in, please change your default password.
If you forget your password, click the "Forgot Password" link on the log in page. Check your LPC email for a link to change your password.
After you add a course during late registration in MyPortal, it takes about 6 hours before your course displays on your Canvas Dashboard.
If your course still does not appear on your Canvas Dashboard after that, get help online or on campus in the Computer Center.
Courses will appear on your Canvas Dashboard on the first day of the term.
If you still don't see a course after the semester has started:
- check MyPortal to make sure you are officially registered for the course.
- reach out to your instructor. While all of our online instructors use Canvas, not all of our on-campus instructors use Canvas, and they may have another way of communicating during your course.
