What is the Math Emporium?
Emporium sections use two modalities
- In-Person
- Online
In-Person
-
You will learn the material through instructor created videos, the book, notes, labs, and homework with support from your instructor and an instructional assistant in the classroom. There will be no in-class lectures on the course content since each class is a blend of students from multiple courses all working at their speed.
- Attend class on campus during the days/times listed in the schedule.
- During class you will have the option to watch lectures and take notes, work on assignments, review practice test and take tests. Some students like to watch lectures so they can ask the instructor questions as they learn the material and then work on homework outside of class, while other students prefer to watch lectures outside of class and then work on homework during class. However, most students tend to blend those two styles.

There is no set class time for these asynchronous sections, however, you must be able to meet with your instructor, during week (Monday through Friday) for weekly check-ins using Zoom, to review practice tests and to review your actual tests. Availability will primarily be set to typical working hours 9:30 am to 5:30pm, but exceptions for earlier or later meetings will be made as needed.
Students will:
- Work at their own pace through video lectures, homework sets and labs.
- Ask for help as needed from their instructor or an instructional assistant.
- Decide when they are ready to take a test within a flexible window.
- Demonstrate understanding of a certain percentage of the material before moving on to the next chapter.
- No longer just struggle to get by, but will build a stronger foundation for their future material.
- Have flexibility in when they complete the course: early, on time, or the following semester.
What kind of student excels in the Emporium Model?

- Students who construct a good working relationship with their instructor and instructional assistants.
- Students who take full advantage of all support resources available online, in-class and on campus.

Student determines how much time they need to spend on a concept before moving on. | Student may have to move forward before fully grasping a concept. |
