FLMS 5 - Introduction to Film Editing

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of digital editing for short films and videos. Students will learn about the history of film and video editing, important theories for analyzing editing, and various approaches to and styles of editing. Students will also learn about and practice using computers to edit film and video based on key digital editing concepts and technical elements. 36 hours lecture, 54 hours laboratory. ADGE: 3; Transfer: CSU, UC.
Recommended Course Preparation: PHTO 58 with a minimum grade of C.

FLMS 7 - Introduction to Film Editing

This course introduces students to the development of scripts and screenplays for narrative film and video, both fictional and non-fictional. Students will learn the essentials of story creation, narrative screenplay structure, characterization, pacing, conflict, and tension, as well as technical screenplay formatting. Students will analyze influential films and screenplays to better understand various successful approaches. 54 hours lecture. ADGE: 3; Transfer: CSU.
