Fire Academy - Fire Suppression Certificate of Achievement (CA)
About the Program
The Las Positas College Regional Fire Academy is an accredited California State Fire Marshal program providing certificates from State Fire Training, the National Wildfire Coordinating Group and CAL Fire. This program and other similar programs statewide are intended to provide an educated recruit base for fire departments in the state of California. This program is designed to meet the dynamic challenges of fire department needs for pre-service recruits in the 21st century and enabling students to successfully become employed by fire departments throughout the state of California and within the Alameda County Community College Districts service area. The Las Positas College Fire Academy graduates are employed in every Fire Department in Alameda County and many departments in California as well as throughout the United States.
Career Opportunities
Firefighter Trainee Firefighter Reserve Seasonal Firefighter (Cal FIRE- US Forest Service) Hand-crew- Forestry Firefighter Upon successful completion of the Academy, students will meet the training requirements for the California State Fire Marshal Firefighter I. Student will then be able to apply for the Certification after successful competition of the FF1 2013 task book and experience requirement which includes: one year as a Volunteer or Reserve firefighter or six months as an Intern/full time paid firefighter with a recognized California fire department. The California State Fire Marshal’s Office has adopted a National accredited certification process, which is approved by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board).
Program Outcomes
- Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Fire Academy-Fire Suppression, students are able to define and identify the structure, culture and expectations of entry level firefighting personnel.
- Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Fire Academy-Fire Suppression, students are able to demonstrate the ability to perform to the standard set forth by State Fire Training Firefighter 2013 skills and examination standards.
- Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Fire Academy-Fire Suppression, students are able to demonstrate the proper use of equipment, tools, skills and abilities required of an entry-level firefighter.
