Flashcards

Many students use flashcard websites to help them make their own flashcards, and their instructors often use these websites to provide flashcards for the class. However, these websites can also lure students into cheating and plagiarism.

• Like websites that ask for essays, essay prompts, and other class "documents," these websites encourage students to upload their flashcards.
• These websites also provide flashcards for specific classes that have been provided by students. If an instructor has not provided this information to students before the test, studying these flashcards, as opposed to making them oneself, is cheating.
• Flashcards provided by these websites for a generic science, math, or history class are less risky, but students should ask their instructor; the instructor may want them to exclusively use class notes or instructor slide presentations as study tools.
